Foot & ankle pain

When your feet hurt, everything above them tends to pay the price too.

Osteopathic treatment for foot & ankle pain at Matrix Health & Performance

Foot and ankle pain, including issues like plantar fasciitis and recurring ankle problems, can affect how you walk and how the rest of your body loads. We assess your foot, ankle, and gait to find the cause, then build a plan around it.

What it can feel like

  • Heel or arch pain, often worse with the first steps of the day
  • Recurring ankle rolls or a sense of instability
  • Pain that builds with walking, standing, or running
  • Stiffness through the foot and ankle

Common contributing factors

  • A change in footwear, surface, or activity level
  • How you load the foot when walking or running
  • Reduced strength and control through the lower leg
  • An old ankle injury that never fully recovered

Our perspective

How we think about this

Your feet are the foundation, so how you load them affects everything above. With foot and ankle pain we look closely at how you move and where the load is going, rather than only treating the sore spot.

We are also not big fans of relying on braces and supports to do the work. They can have a place early on, but worn long term they tend to build dependence rather than capacity. The better answer is almost always to strengthen the foot and lower leg so they can handle load on their own.

Common questions about foot & ankle pain

Can an osteopath help with plantar fasciitis?+

Yes, heel and arch pain is something we see a lot of. We assess how your foot, ankle, and the way you walk contribute, then combine hands-on treatment with a loading program for the foot and calf, plus practical footwear advice.

Why do I keep rolling my ankle?+

Usually because an earlier sprain never fully rebuilt its strength and balance control, leaving the ankle less able to catch itself. A targeted strengthening and control program addresses exactly that, which is far more effective than bracing it forever.

Do I need orthotics?+

Sometimes they help in the short term, but we are honest about this: worn long term, supports tend to build dependence rather than capacity. Our preference is to strengthen the foot and lower leg so they can handle load on their own, and we will tell you plainly if we think orthotics genuinely suit your case.

When is foot pain worth getting assessed?+

If pain with your first steps in the morning, during walking, or after activity has hung around for more than a couple of weeks, it is worth a proper look. Foot problems tend to change how everything above them loads, so addressing them early prevents knock-on issues.
